Carnivores 2

Carnivores 2 by Action Forms, released in 1999, is a dinosaur hunting simulator that transports the player to the distant planet FMM UV-32, where prehistoric predators roam untouched landscapes. The task is simple and brutal at the same time: track the prey, avoid spooking it, make a precise shot, and get out alive.

Compared with the first game, Carnivores 2 significantly expanded the content: it added new dinosaur species, including especially large and aggressive predators such as the Spinosaurus and Allosaurus, and the hunter’s arsenal gained additional weapons and equipment. The locations became more varied — snowy mountain plateaus, tropical jungles and dry plains created the feeling of a living, breathing world despite the technical limits of the era.

The gameplay was built on patience and observation. Wind altered scent, footsteps attracted attention, and each dinosaur had its own detection radius and behavior. One careless move, and a Tyrannosaurus would already be charging straight at the hunter, leaving little chance of escape without proper firepower ready.

Visually, the game looked solid for its time: the 3D animal models moved convincingly, and the landscapes conveyed the right sense of solitude and danger. The atmosphere of a barren planet where humans are intruders and potential prey kept tension high far more effectively than a simple hunting mechanic could have.

Carnivores 2 is remembered by its generation as an unexpectedly deep niche project — not an action spectacle, but a real hunt with all its anticipation, excitement and risk. For its genre and era, it was a small gem, overlooked by the wider audience but warmly cherished by those who played it.
