C&C3: Tacitus Revolution — an unofficial second expansion for Tiberium Wars and a direct evolution of the Kane's Wrath Reloaded mod, which incorporates the best ideas from C&C4. 14 factions, over 100 new units and buildings, 100 missions, dozens of multiplayer maps, new game modes, and a reimagined conclusion to the Tiberium saga.

Storyline

When GDI's regular forces proved powerless, the US government secretly formed and funded a separate rebel unit. Its leader was John McNeal — son of Michael McNeal, killed during a Nod raid — a man who has both personal vendettas and a clear understanding of what is at stake. His team is composed of elites: Sheppard (GDI commando), Price (sniper), Parker (synthetic commando), Raynor (Enforcer), Vega (Zone Stalker), and Adams (Zone Raider). Their mission is to destroy Kane, Nod, and the Scrin before they achieve their goals. But behind this lies a deeper question: what does the prophecy of the Tacitus conceal, and why is Kane still alive?

Factions

The mod offers 14 fully playable factions divided into three branches:

  • GDI and sub-factions: GDI (balanced class), Steel Talons (offense), ZOCOM (defense), GAF — Global Air Force (support)

  • Nod and sub-factions: Brotherhood of Nod (balanced class), LEGION (offense), SRF — Special Recon Force (defense), NAF — Nod Air Force (support)

  • Scrin and sub-factions: Scrin (balanced class), Reaper-17 (offense), Shield-98 (defense), Traveler-59 (support)

  • Independent: Forgotten and Russia

  • Each faction has its own set of units, buildings, upgrades, and superpowers. Additionally, combined options are available: Trio Alliance, GDI Trio, Nod Trio, and Scrin Trio.

New Units and Buildings

The mod adds over 100 units. Among the most significant:

  • GDI received Kodiak — a heavy air cruiser with three artillery turrets — as well as the Gauss Sheppard Tank and Orca Paladin

  • Steel Talons bring Mastodon into battle — a recreation of the Mammoth Mark II from Tiberian Sun — as the faction's arsenal pinnacle with a build limit of one unit

  • ZOCOM has an advanced defensive building system: Pillbox, Turret, SAM Site, Patriot Missile System, Defensive Tower, Focus Beam, and Falcon MLRS

  • GAF builds around airpower: Argus, Archangel, Thunderhead, Orca Hurricane, and Orca Stealth Jet

  • Nod received Banshee, Cobra, Salamander, and Demolition Truck (build limit of one)

  • LEGION has the Cyborg Commando and Tyrant Tank, plus the legendary Kane as a top-tier unit

  • Traveler-59 has epic units Armada Destroyer and Assault Mothership

  • Forgotten assemble an army from scrap: Scrapbus, Scooper, Mutant Hijacker, Madin's Mammoth Tank, and GhostStalker from Tiberian Sun

  • Russia introduces a Red Alert-style arsenal: Apocalypse Tank, Tesla Tank, Kirov Airship, Helix, and Iron Curtain

Gameplay

The macro- and micro-management system was redesigned. Unit construction is limited to 50 units of the same type, and some missions use a command-points system: each power plant adds 10 points to the total limit. This eliminates spam and forces thoughtful army composition.

The engineer mechanic was changed in the style of Kane's Wrath and Red Alert 3: capturing enemy buildings requires a three-second delay. Vehicle hijacking is available for engineers and Mutant Hijacker. Hotkeys have been changed and have their own configuration file.

Game Modes

In addition to standard skirmish, the mod offers fundamentally new modes:

  • Tower Defense — defend positions against a limited number of enemy waves

  • Alien Survival — hold your base against endless Scrin waves for 30 minutes

  • Assault the Base — destroy three enemy towers instead of capturing a flag

  • King of the Hill — control the key point on the map

  • Payload — escort a VIP unit or convoy to the objective under constant ambush

  • Fifty Shades — army duel of 50 units each with no base building

  • Co-op Commander's Challenge — jointly destroy the enemy base faster than a set time, inspired by Commander's Challenge from Red Alert 3: Uprising

  • Onslaught Warfare — capture sectors to open a path to the enemy generator

Maps and Missions

The mod includes 100 missions and dozens of new multiplayer maps for formats from 1v1 to 4v4, as well as maps for 3, 5, and 7 players. All original C&C3 and Kane's Wrath maps have been redesigned: new terrain textures were added and the camera zoom range was expanded. For Co-op Commander's Challenge, 30 maps are available.

Music

The soundtrack includes over 37 replaced tracks. Musical themes are borrowed from Grey Goo, 8-Bit Armies, Red Alert, and other series projects. Each faction received its own set of battle tracks: GDI — 7, Scrin — 8, Nod — 5, Forgotten — 4, Russia — 6. Original music authors include Frank Klepacki, Steve Jablonsky, and Trevor Morris, as well as a number of C&C community composers.

How to install a mod C&C3: Tacitus Revolution

The mod requires Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars version 1.10 (EA App/Steam) or 1.09 (retail disc version).

  1. Open File Explorer, navigate to "Documents", and find the folder "Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars". Inside it there should be a folder called "Mods". If it is not there, create it. It is usually created automatically on the first launch of the game.

  2. Move the folder "TacitusA" from the archive into the "Mods" folder.

  3. Create a shortcut to CNC3.exe, open its properties, and add -ui to the target field so the game launches through the launcher. The result should look something like this: D:\Games\Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars\CNC3.exe" -ui

    • Alternative method: go to the game's properties in Steam and enter -ui in the launch options.

  4. Launch the game using the shortcut or through Steam.

  5. The launcher will open. Go to the "Game Browser" menu, then switch to the "Mods" tab, select the mod, and click "Launch Game".

  6. Enjoy!

Platform-specific launch notes

EA App (formerly Origin) Since C&C series games are typically installed to C:\Program Files\EA App, mods work the same way as regular mods for C&C3 and Red Alert 3. However, you must use a shortcut with the -ui parameter to open the mod management panel.

If you experience issues launching the game or mods through EA App or Steam, you may need to install the C&C Ultimate Edition Fix by Bibber.

Gameplay notes

  1. "Out of memory" error If an "Out of memory" message appears even after applying the 4GB Patch utility, set texture quality to medium and disable Anti-Aliasing to reduce memory usage. All SAGE engine games are 32-bit and can use a maximum of 2 GB of RAM, or up to 4 GB after applying the 4GB Patch.

  2. If maps do not appear in-game Use BIG Extractor by Bibber to extract the maps and place them in the following directories:

    • Windows Vista/7/8/10/11: "C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars\Maps"

    • Windows XP: "C:\Documents & Settings\username\Application Data\Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars\Maps"

    • Maps must be placed in separate folders.

  3. Using Kane's Wrath maps with Kane's Wrath textures. The file ArtKW.big contains the necessary textures. Place it in the "Core\1.0" folder in your C&C3 directory and add the following line to config.ini: add-big ArtKW.big

  4. Unlocking the Intel Database and modified hotkeys. The package includes an archive IDB.rar. Place its contents in your C&C3 profile folder: "C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars\profiles". Place hotkeys.ini in the same location if you wish to use the modified key layout.

  5. Civilian objects. Place the file WBData_1.1.big in the "Core\1.0" folder in your C&C3 directory and add the following line to config.ini: add-big WBData_1.1.big. The author does not recommend loading WBData_1.1.big via the .skudef file, as the game will recognize it as a separate mod rather than part of the overall package.

  6. Eurostyle UAW font. For correct interface display, extract and install the Eurostyle UAW font from the file TacitusA_0.6_Misc.big (shown here as an example).

  7. Changing launcher splash screens. To replace the C&C3 TA launcher splash screens, extract or replace the relevant files from the archive Launcher.rar in the "Launchers" folder in your C&C3 directory.
