Dawn of War: Redux is a large-scale mod for Dawn of War: Soulstorm, conceived as an unofficial remaster of the original game. The project covers two areas at once: visual and technical improvements, and a deep overhaul of gameplay based on the mechanics of the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop game.

Redux is focused on multiplayer and AI skirmishes. The campaign is not available. The mod features updated textures, models, maps, skyboxes, and special effects. The interface has been completely redesigned for Full HD resolution — it is cleaner and more readable. Unit icons have been redrawn, and the audio has been significantly reworked: atmospheric ambient soundscapes have been added to maps (wind sounds on snowy locations, jungle wildlife), faction themes and weapon sounds have been updated. All of this fits organically into the original game's style without feeling out of place.
The key gameplay change is the Armour and Toughness system, borrowed from the tabletop game. Each unit has Armour (1-5) and Toughness (1-6) values, and each weapon has Armour-Piercing and Strength values. Damage is calculated based on these parameters: light weapons like lasguns deal full damage to lightly armoured targets but drop to as little as 6% effectiveness against heavy armour. This makes choosing the right equipment for a specific opponent very important.
Combat has become noticeably slower and demands a more thoughtful approach:
Transports and buildings create squad reinforcement zones — outside of them, reinforcement is unavailable until the second tech tier.
Losing entire squads is significantly more costly than in the vanilla game.
Vehicles are extremely durable but expensive, take up many squad cap points, and lose speed and accuracy when damaged.
Morale dropping to zero leaves a squad completely uncontrollable for 10-16 seconds.
The squad cap has been increased from 20 to 30, and an army upkeep tax system has been introduced.
All ten factions have been reworked to reflect the new mechanics. Each has its own armour profile: Space Marines and Chaos typically have Armour 4 and Toughness 2, Dark Eldar rely on numerous light infantry with Armour 1, while Tau and Eldar field a diverse roster with varying levels of protection. This means the optimal loadout will differ significantly depending on the opponent. Each faction has received several new units that fit naturally into the original roster without disrupting balance.
Redux is a great fit for those who want a refreshed vanilla Dawn of War experience without the content overload of large compilations like Ultimate Apocalypse or Unification. The game remains stable even during lengthy sessions with large-scale battles.
How to install a mod Redux Mod
Extract the archive contents into the root directory of Dawn of War Soulstorm or Dawn of War Definitive Edition, depending on which version of the mod you downloaded.
If you are updating the mod, it is recommended to delete the Redux folder beforehand.
Download and move Mod Manager to the game's root directory to launch the mod through it rather than directly through the game, otherwise some interface textures will not load correctly.
Launch Mod Manager and make sure the Redux mod is selected in the bottom-left of the launcher. Then go to the Settings menu to choose the graphics quality and screen resolution. After that, click the "Start Mod" button.
Play!
Hotkey configuration files will not be created automatically in the player profile folder. For hotkeys to work, copy the five keydefaults files from Redux/data/defprofile and paste them into the Redux folder inside your profile folder (located at [Username]/AppData/Roaming/Relic Entertainment/Dawn of War/Profiles/[Profile Number]/Redux). The AppData folder is hidden, so you will need to enable the display of hidden folders.
