Dawn of War: 3rd Generation is one of the largest mods for Dark Crusade, and its goal is not to turn the game upside down, but to expand it to the scale it deserved. The approach can be described as "vanilla plus" — the foundation remains familiar, but there is significantly more content.

Dawn of War: 3rd Generation adds 4 new races (Dark Eldar, Daemonhunters, Tyranids, Witch Hunters), dozens of new units for all factions, new maps, game modes, titans, and the ability to play the original DoW campaign in Skirmish mode!
Four fully featured factions have been added to the game:
Dark Eldar — a swift strike force with poisoned weapons, raiders, and super-heavy Void Blades.
Daemonhunters — the forces of Ordo Malleus featuring Grey Knights, powerful Exterminatus abilities, and a unique tech tree.
Tyranids — a devouring swarm capable of pushing the pop cap up to 300 and fielding everything from Gaunts to the Hierophant.
Witch Hunters — fanatical warriors with Sisters of Battle, Inquisitors, Acts of Faith, and heroes such as the Living Saint.
All four factions are available in the Dark Crusade campaign.
Each of the original factions has received a substantial expansion — new units, upgrades, squad leaders, and squad sizes closer to the codex. For example, Space Marine Tactical Squads now field 10 troops, Chaos has regained flamers and missile launchers, and Scouts have received leaders and new weapons. A number of cut content from the original has also been restored — upgrades such as health and accuracy improvements for Chaos Marines.
Chaos deserves special mention: it is now possible to choose Marks of the Gods, summon Greater Daemons of all four gods, field cult units (Khorne Berserkers, Plague Marines, and others), and deploy entire Renegade Guard forces up to and including Baneblades.

The AI has been reworked — it is more aggressive, navigates maps better, and correctly interacts with all new units. The ability to transfer resources to allies has also been added.
Unlike Unification (a mod for Soulstorm), 3rd Generation is based on Dark Crusade and does not attempt to add a separate race for every variety of Space Marine. The most powerful units are Warhounds (25 transport cap points, up to 8 at a time) — with no super-heavy titans on the level of the Imperator. The mod keeps the scale manageable, focusing on depth rather than endless duplication of similar factions.
