CMR 2 is a deep overhaul of Battlefield 2, started in 2023 and built on the foundation of the original 2009 project. The mod occupies a niche between arcade and military simulator: enough realism for immersion, but without the tactical overload that turns a game into a chore.

All first-person animations in CMR 2 have been remade from scratch — reloads, weapon handling, and movements look fluid and cinematic. Textures for buildings, terrain, soldiers, weapons, and effects have been upgraded to HD quality. Maps were hand-picked and redesigned both visually and gameplay-wise.
The arsenal has been brought up to a modern standard: new sights, weapon variants, and realistic weapon behaviour — recoil and bullet spread with realistic ballistics, where bullets drop more the longer they travel. Accuracy now depends on firing in controlled bursts and choosing the right weapon, not just pointing the cursor.
New factions have been added: USMC, SEALs, MARSOC, and Rangers face off against the Taliban and their special forces unit BADRI 313, as well as the MEC and MEC special operations forces. Each side has a unique appearance, equipment, and weapon loadout.
The AI has become smarter — bots react faster, shoot more accurately, and are capable of flanking instead of charging head-on. Attack helicopters now actively engage targets. The HUD has been simplified for a cleaner visual experience, and weapon and ambient sounds are sharp and rich.
CMR 2 is built on the principle of quality over quantity — there are no hundreds of maps or excessive mechanics, but every element is executed at the highest level possible for a BF2 modification.
How to install a mod Combat Mod Remastered 2 (CMR:2)
Make sure you have a clean version of Battlefield 2 with all updates and expansions installed.
Move the folder from the archive into the mods folder in the game directory.
Create a shortcut to BF2.exe and add the following to the target field after a space: +modPath mods/CMR116 +menu 1 +fullscreen 1. The result should look like this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +modPath mods/CMR116 +menu 1 +fullscreen 1. Apply the changes.
Launch the game through this shortcut.
