UPatch HD - Unofficial Patch

UPatch HD is almost essential for playing Age of Empires: The Rise of Rome on modern PCs. The patch affects many aspects of the game:

• Upgrades the interface to HD quality

• Enables high resolutions up to 2K, replacing the original 640×480–1024×768

• Replaces the MIDI soundtrack with a higher-quality MP3 soundtrack

• Improves game stability and adds support for modern systems

• New gameplay options: random team composition, random map type, post-Iron Age start, and more

• New map types: Oasis and Rivers, plus new starting conditions: post-Iron Age start, random team selection, random map type, hotkey for passive military units, and more

• New launcher for convenient game startup with modding support

• Extensive settings: windowed mode, custom player name, choice of 10 languages (English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Russian, Chinese, Japanese)

• Improved balance based on years of community feedback without radically changing the original gameplay

• Restored original demo campaigns and scenarios: Reign of the Hittites, First Punic War, and the multiplayer scenarios Multiplayer Rumble and Multiplayer Mediterranean, which were originally intended to ship with the game but were cut from the release

• Fixes numerous bugs

Multiplayer

All players must have the same version installed — 1.2. Most multiplayer services (e.g. Radmin, GameRanger, Garena, Tunngle) fully support UPatch HD, except platforms with a modified client such as Voobly. Scenarios and campaigns remain fully compatible with the original version of the game.
